My dad played 6 man football in the late 30's.He played for Danbury high school in Nebraska in 1939.Danbury(pop 321) went to Rising city to plaY for the state championship.Dansbury won and  became the Nebraska 6 man champs.The magazine American Boy placed Danbury in the top 10 6 man teams in america america.tHE first team consisted OF Virgil Hagg,Dee Messenger,Cornell Henton,Bill Carrol, Bob Daffer, and Wayne Boyer. They were good. My dad Dick did all  the kicking. The heaviest player on the team wieghed 180,my dad wieghed 125 lbs. There were only 11 boy's that turned out for the team that year.Dad and 4 others played defense in practice and they got punished by the 1st team.they wore leather helmets with no facemasks.My dad got his nose broken and all recieved many bruises.The field they played on had no grass,just good hard Nebraska dirt.Ed White was the coach(he has since past).After school my dad joined the Navy in 1941 and served in the Pacific for 5 years and 7 months.He is noe retiered and spends his summers near Bellingham Wa. And winters in Palm Dessert Ca.
