on feb. 11th, 1991. the engine quit running all togather. pulled back from front line to have maintanece unit check it out. the engine was not repairable, had to order a whole knew engine. while we were waitimg, ground camaign started on the 28th of feb.. the maitanence unit left us there with 33 solders, with 20 vehicles that were unseviceable. we were told that a unit from kentucky will pick up. two days have passed when one solder asked, is that a u.s. flag. i said no, that is a white flag. we have iraqi's surrendering.  we spread out, and brung them into our liile camp. we took all the precautions in secureing the iraqis. there was 39 that evening, five of which were officers. all they had in way of food was one loaf of bread amd no water. since we had  three refer trailers full of food and baverages. we supplied what we could spare. two of the officers were doctors, and asked if they can treat thier solders. of the 34, 19 had blisters so bad on thier feet that we were surprised they were able to make it that far.. one of the officers, mentioned that there was some more iraqi solders out there some where. since it was getting dark, we decided to wait until the next morning to search for the others. since we also knew that it got cold at might. we gathered al the used sleeping bags out of one of the trailers to keep the iraqis warm that night. the next morning, ten of us kept guard on the prisoners, while the other 23 went in search of the other iraqis. they came back about two hours later with 13 more iraqi solders. we had the iraqi medical officers check out the condition of these solders. five more had blisters on thier feet. finally, on march 5th. the maintence unit from kentucky showed up. the second lt. that was in charge told us to tell the iraqi solders to keep on walking south until they came too another unit. we said no. we mentioned that we were following orders from (daddy) president bush.  stating that if any iraqi solder surrender to the coalion force, we will do whatever it took to take care of them. that if the lt. did not trasport the iraqi solders south, we will report him to for disobeying direct orders from the president. some of the lt. own men agreed with us. all the iraqi solders thanked us for helping them out. the iraqi captian told us that they hope they will be treated just as nice at the prison camp, as they were with us.
