I graduated from Waynesboro Senior High School in 1948 in the state of Pennsylvania. I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps a few months later and served from 1948 to 1952 with an honorable discharge.
I was in the Korean Conflict and flew over as a member of the 1st replacement draft. We engaged the enemy at the Pusan Perimeter defense and later landed in the first wave at Inchon securing the island of Wolmi-do. Two days outside of Inchon while advancing towards Seoul I was wounded by gunfire and sent back to Japan until a month later the slug was removed. I was sent back to Korea and while moving north to reach our objective, the Yalu River, our outfit was attacked and surrounded by thousands of Chinese at a place called the Chosin Resevoir. I suffered severe frostbite in -50/-70 degrees below zero and was on the last plane out with frozen feet. Lucky me!
