Great Grandmother's Gingerbread (MO) Recipe

Ingredients
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup lard or butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 cup molasses
1 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1 cup hot water

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 13 x 9-inch baking dish. Cream the butter, lard, and sugar together. Add the beaten egg and molasses. Mix the baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and flour together in a separate bowl. Stir the flour mixture into the creamed mixture. Add the hot water last. Beat the batter until smooth. Pour into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
