Newport Arkansas Sequoia Dean is racking in impressive stats on the softball field. She has led the Newport Lady Greyhound and Arkansas Sizzlers Softball Squads in batting, with an impressive .578 at the plate.  She has helped lead teams to District, Regional and State Championships.  Dean has been playing softball since the early age of 5 years old and holds a number of awards and honors.  Dean was recently picked, Player to watch 2009 season and Best 1st baseman in the conference by local media and coaches. She has also caught the interest of a number of college softball coaches. When off the softball field, Dean enjoys singing in her church choir and volunteering at the Branch Community Center and Jackson County Soup Kitchen.  She plans on becoming a Top Notch Chef and teaches her own Cooking Class at Newport High School.  When asked why she wants to become a chef, Sequoia answers, "My mother can really 'do it' in the kitchen and my dad is a Food Inspector and stays on me about washing my hands all the time, I think that's where the motivation comes from".  Sequoia is the daughter of Alphonso and Yvelda Dean of Newport Arkansas.
