Thanks to Eileen McGillicuddy, I found American Profile today. The article Eileen sent me was Name That Town by Candi Helseth. Of course, I have a special place in my heart for Granville, ND (named McGillicuddy City when we visited there with Paul & Eileen McGillicuddy, our friends from Baltimore, MD). Both of we couples stayed with Lucille Loftesnes at her home, Carver Lake Lodge, when the contest was in its first year. We were extremely impressed with the hospitality of the town, the wholesome people who live in that part of the country, and we were treated to extraordinary efforts to entertain us and inform us about how they wanted to grow and to continue to provide the best education and jobs for their families.
The article revived memories of a special time with wonderful people. We've not yet returned to McGillicuddy City, but we plan to do so. To me, it's the epitome of the Wild West, as represented by one of the prairie
states of the American northwest. To go there is to realize and see for yourself how spacious and solid is our great country.
