The War....I just watched the first part. My father was at Guadalcanal in 1942-43 but like most men of a war, refused to talk about it. All I remember was his hatred for the Japanese. He came home with Malaria and the stories about that I heard from a relative, as I said he would not talk about it. Seeing the first part of this documentry was heart rendering but when it came to Guadalcanal I sat upright and took in every scene, minute and the story behind these men taking over this place. I had a better understanding of why my father never talked about his experience in the war. I was in tears and my heart went out to the men and the families of the men who died so we could be free. The horrors of war came home to me when I watched this program. My father has since passed over but if I could say or do anything I would tell him thanks, give him a hug and say, now I know why you kept this inside all those years.
Thanks for the insight into what war is really like for the men who go without question to serve.
Will be sitting watching the 2nd part tonight. Thanks Ken
