Thank you American Profile for the article on Rails to Trails. I cycled the Elroy-Sparta Trail back in the early 70's while chaperoning a coed Explorer Post which was on a combined canoeing, biking and camping trip. Less than a 1/2 mile from the starting point, my bike gear broke and I cyled the entire trip UP the mountain in high gear. It was an incredibly hot day in the middle of the summer, and the only thing that "saved me" were the marvelous tunnels along the route that gave me time to cool off and resume what was an ardous trip to camp at the top of the mountain. Needless to say, I was the last one to arrive and the scouts couldn't decide when to razz or cheer me! I would encourage anyone who has not biked or hiked that wonderful route to create a memory which will last a life time and hit the Elroy-Sparta trail!!
