Katie Dodd, Jean Shepherd (Christmas Story) was born just up the road from you in Hammond IN, spent much of his career with WOR radio in NYC, and his storied were largely based in Indiana -- how in the wide wide world of sports can you call him "Canadian Humorist"?

Ms. Dodd, Jack is correct.....Shepherd is from Lake County Indiana and A Christmas Story takes place in Gary, IN.

Certainly, many of the movies and TV specials you highlighted could be considered classics, but one is missing. How can anyone overlook "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation"? For anyone that has ever tried to get the whole family together, this not only hits home, but also serves as a reminder the next time you decide to do something so foolish! The Griswold family is probably not too different from most families. Great music, too. This one is timeless.

This is the one holiday event that is not to be missed at my house.
This is to clear up errors posted by other readers on here.
A Christmas Story was filmed in Cleveland, Ohio, NOT Gary, Indiana that is stated in several blogs.
I know this for a fact. I own the DVD set and the special features section states that it was filmed in Cleveland. By the time the end of filming came around, the weather started warming up, they had to make homemade snow by using soap bubbles from soap detergents. Several scenes in the film were used with this method. By the way, this is a classic film, which I never grow tired of watching.

Bruno63's comment, which is absolutely correct, was that "Christmas Story" takes place in Gary, not that it was filmed there.
GADS!! I read the article concerning Christmas Classics in this week's American Profile. I cannot believe that the Griswold's Christmas Vacation was not mentioned or highlighted??!! What a wonderful Christmas movie it is and puts everyone in the Christmas spirit around our home. It's an absolute classic and listed at the tip top of our "Christmas must-see movie" list! The others mentioned were fabulous, but this one has got to be the best!! Happy holidays to everyone!
