Freddie Hart, a native of Lochapoka, Ala., is doing little performing these days, but he’s proud of his 2004 induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Could you please give me some information on Juliet Huddy, who is with Fox News?
—Darwin M., Texas
Juliet Huddy, 35, was born in Miami Beach, Fla., but moved around quite a bit as a child because of her father’s journalism career. When Huddy got into the profession, she was quite accustomed to changing locations, which she has had to do. After graduating from the University of Missouri, she began her career as a reporter/producer for KARO-FM in Columbia, Mo. For the past seven years, she has worked at various Fox stations, including the Miami bureau, then in Los Angeles and New York. Now she’s the co-host of Fox & Friends’ weekend edition and Entertainment Coast to Coast. "It’s a great job, despite the fact that I have to get up at 3 in the morning," says Huddy, who recently divorced. "One minute we’ll be talking to Colin Powell and the next, it’s Tori Spelling. It is great!"
What happened to the star of the 1960s television show Adventures in Paradise?
—Janet K., California
Gardner McKay, who played Adam Troy, died at his Hawaii home of prostate cancer in 2001 at age 69. Adventures in Paradise was the only role of note for McKay, who had a passion for sailing and a penchant for travel. When the series ended in 1962, McKay left acting to travel the world and escape Hollywood’s pressures. In the 1970s, he wrote for the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, and in 1979 won the L.A. Drama Critic’s Award for best play for Sea Marks. He wrote a dozen plays and the novels Toyer, The Last American and Tromp L’Oeil. He was married to Madeleine Madigan, and helped raise her daughter Liza. Together they had a son, Tristan.
Jeff Foxworthy Hosts CMT Awards on April 11
Talking about everyday stuff has made Jeff Foxworthy, 46, one of the most successful funnymen in the United States with his Blue Collar Comedy tour, movie, TV series and comedy albums. That’s why he’s been invited to host the 2005 CMT Music Awards, airing live at 8 p.m. ET April 11. And he doesn’t plan to change his act one iota to do so. "I have people all the time in the media that will ask, ‘How many people are offended by redneck jokes?’" he says. "And the honest answer is none. The more people are guilty of it, the better they like it." Foxworthy, who lives in Atlanta with his wife and two daughters, is excited about hosting a show where the awards are given by the fans. (To cast your vote for your favorite country star, visit www.cmt.com.) He also was happy to recently be a part of The Comedy Central Roast of Jeff Foxworthy. "They tried to tell me it was an honor," he says. "I’ve never taken myself too seriously, so for me it was really fun. When it was over, people asked me, ‘Are you OK?’ I was, ‘Yeah, it was funny.’"
