Scott Bakula, Dean Stockwell, Jeffrey Donovan, Cynthia Clawson
Q I was a big fan of the TV show Quantum Leap. Could you tell me what Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell have been up to since the show ended?—Jaimie Kibbee, Grantsville, Utah
Both have kept busy in film and TV. Stockwell, 73, worked in two additional TV series, JAG and Battlestar Galactica, and he'll appear in an upcoming remake of the 1970 movie The Dunwich Horror, in which he starred 39 years ago. Bakula, 54, appeared in the last four episodes of TV's Chuck, and in the series Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Enterprise, in addition to a number of TV movies. He stars next in the film The Informant, and he's about to begin working on a new TNT series, Men of a Certain Age, with Ray Romano, scheduled to hit the air next year. Bakula resides in Los Angeles with his second wife, Chelsea Field, and has four children.
Q Did Jeffrey Donovan, who plays Michael Westen on the TV series Burn Notice, appear in the horror movie Hatchet?
—Darcie Doney, Harlem, Mont.
Donovan, 41, was in Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, the 2000 sequel to the cult-hit movie, but not in Hatchet. You can also spot the Massachusetts-born actor alongside Angelina Jolie in Changeling, now on DVD. Donovan likes to vary his roles between television, movies and theater. "TV is exciting, it's very quick—there's not a lot of room for mistakes, so you're on the fly all the time. Movies are so epic, so grand. And I love the reciprocity of being on stage: I do something and something comes back."
Q In the 1985 movie The Trip to Bountiful, someone with a most clear and beautiful voice sings "Softly and Tenderly." Who is it?
—Lee Dennis, Clanton, Ala.
The voice belongs to Grammy and Dove Award-winning gospel vocalist Cynthia Clawson, and the song is available on her album Immortal. After J.A.C. Redford, who was scoring the film, heard her perform the hymn at a concert, he invited her to sing it for the 1985 movie. Clawson continues to perform, and she and husband Ragan Courtney are co-pastors of The Sanctuary, a house of worship in Austin, Texas.
