Q Can you share some information on John Newton? He was wonderful in the Hallmark Channel's The Christmas Card.
—Helen C. Fox, Franklin, Pa.

Newton, 43, co-starred in the 1990s TV series Melrose Place, Models, Inc. and The Untouchables, but legions of TV viewers will remember him as young Clark Kent in the late-1980s adventure series Superboy. The Chapel Hill, N.C., native appeared in two episodes of Desperate Housewives as cable guy Jonathan Lithgow, and he made two films last year. He and wife Jennifer are busy raising their new baby daughter.

Q In the TV series Cupid, for the second time in her career, Sarah Paulson plays a therapist. The first was in the movie Serenity. Did she ever study psychology?
—Liz Hayes, Portland, Maine

"It may be because I go to the shrink so much that it transferred the ability to me," jokes the 34-year-old actress, who is best known to TV audiences for her role of Harriet Hayes on Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. Paulson did ask her own therapist a few questions about certain things in the scripts. But she didn't want to delve too deeply into the profession, lest she bog down in pesky details. "I thought if I did a lot of research, I would get very clinical and want to wear glasses and do things that wouldn't help me with the tone of the show."

Q At the Academy Awards, Mickey Rourke wore a necklace with a picture of his dog in the pendant. Where did he get it?
—Alice Darnold, Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Betina Wasserman, a marketing manager in Queens, N.Y., who crafts jewelry on weekends, made the pendant that Rourke wore to the Oscars. She, like Rourke, 56, recently had lost her dog. When she heard about the death of Loki, Rourke's beloved chihuahua, she made a pendant for him.

Q Last year I heard about a bunch of country music stars playing a softball tournament for charity. Is this something they do every year?
—Victor Gant, Porterville, Calif.
