Route 66, Cat Deeley, Run, Joe, Run, Robert Pattinson, Carnie Wilson
Q What happened to the two stars of the TV series Route 66?
-Betty Viers, North Tazewell, Va.
Route 66, which aired from 1960 to 1964, starred Martin Milner as Tod Stiles and George Maharis as Buz Murdock. The two New York pals cruised the country in a Corvette while picking up odd jobs and meeting interesting characters. Maharis, now 80, moved on afterward to work in films and television and also recorded several albums. Milner, 77, went on to other roles, most notably as Officer Pete Malloy in the TV series Adam-12. You can ride along for the first two seasons of Route 66 on DVD.
Q Can Cat Deeley, host of So You Think You Can Dance, actually dance?
-Monica Collins, Jamestown, Wash.
Before the British-born Deeley ("Cat" is short for Catherine) moved to America to host So You Think You Can Dance, she was a disc jockey, a TV host and fashion model, but never a dancer. "I am a terrible dancer," admits Deeley, 32, who began a new season as host of So You Think You Can Dance this month. She says she's in awe of the contestants' fancy footwork. "It is incredible to see what they can do."
Q What can you tell me about the TV show Run, Joe, Run that I remember watching as a child? It was about a German Shepherd.
-Cindy Brodie, Liberty, Tenn.
The 1974-1976 NBC Saturday-morning series was about a pooch in the U.S. Army's K-9 corps that goes AWOL after being falsely accused of attacking his master. As Joe helps folks he meets along his rambling freedom flight, Sgt. Corey (Arch Whiting) tries to find him and clear his name. The dog that played Joe went on to make the TV movie Kavic, the Wolf Dog and the feature film The Pack.
Q Robert Pattinson is my new favorite. He rocked as Edward Cullen in Twilight. Where else can I see him?
-Claire Edwards, Athens, Ohio
The 23-year-old London native's first major exposure came when he played Cedric Diggory in the movie Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He also had a small role in the 2004 version of Vanity Fair, which was edited out for the theatrical release but can be seen on the DVD. More recently, he put on a mustache and an accent for his starring role as Salvador Dali in the movie Little Ashes, and next he'll reprise his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight sequel, New Moon.
Q I'd heard that singer Carnie Wilson was going to be on a new TV show. Got any details?
-Dick Trout, Gravel Ridge, Ark.
Wilson, 41, famed for her career with the pop group Wilson Phillips, recently became host of The Newlywed Game on GSN. The fresh revival of the classic game show includes an updated set and a new bonus round in which the winning couple challenges a "Goldywed" couple, a still-married husband and wife who appeared on an original episode from the 1960s through the 1990s. "I'm a huge fan of the show and watched back in the day," Wilson says. "It's a special show that stands alone as one of a kind, and I'm proud to be a part of it."
