Sydney is "The Ambassador of Good Will" as her desire to improve the world began when she was very little. She has a big heart that encompasses not only the animals in her life (she requested that her dad build a "house" for a wild turkey that was living in their yard) but as she has grown, her family, friends and those in the community has become an important part in her life. The activities and projects she has done, and continues to do, has grown in importance for her. She is only 12 years old but has done more than most adults in helping to establish goodwill in the surrounding community.
Last year Sydney donated her beautiful blond hair to the "Locks of Love" to be used for wigs for cancer patients and intends to keep doing so as soon as her hair gets long enough again. She encourages others in her family and community to give their hair also. She is a member of the Richland County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, which is a volunteer search and rescue squad on horseback. She helps in patrolling parades as crowd control, searching for lost children or adults and evidence recovery.
Sydney is active in her school project of saving pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. She reminds those in her family and in the community to save them for this project and has approximately 1500 tabs ready to turn in to the school. Sydney’s work in her 4-H club has provided her with an opportunity to pass out ear plugs at the county fair, participate in community parades, gives speeches concerning the care of animals. She was one of the top 10 4-H 2nd year members in the county based on her record keeping, activity with her animals.
Sydney’s winning and friendly smile attracts and inspires others to get involved. Being the youngest in the search and rescue volunteers helps adults see that they too have something to give to the community. Sydney inspires others to help with projects and to "get involved" by seeing her do her best in all situations.
Sydney’s inspiration has come from watching her parents take care of animals from all aspects. From watching life and death situations on the farm with the family herd of sheep, cows and horses to attending to her projects of chickens, rabbits and dogs, she has been taught that animals are an important part of a person’s life.
Sydney’s accomplishment has been to be an ambassador of goodwill and she has certainly accomplished that as she is well known in the community for her good deeds and friendliness. County residents know that she is willing to try and to do her best.
Sydney has always had such a big heart and she wants to give anything that is needed by anyone such as her money, toys, school supplies and clothes. She also plans to get her 4-H club to make monthly visits to an assisted living home to visit with the home bound residents. Her plan is to take small presents to them, write letters and cards and perhaps have each 4-H member adopt a resident.
