Q Is Dwight Yoakam still performing? They never play his songs on country stations anymore.—Vickie Reintjes, Attica, Mich.
Singer-actor Yoakam, who put 17 Top 10 singles on country radio, continues to record and perform. His latest CD honors his idol, the late Buck Owens. Dwight Sings Buck showcases Yoakam’s reinterpretations of 15 Owens classics, including “Together Again,” “Act Naturally” and “Cryin’ Time.” The new CD was released Oct. 23, the day Yoakam turned 51.
Q I heard on a TV special that Roy Rogers’ horse, Trigger, wasn’t really his horse. Is that true?
—Janet Hilligass, Scranton, Pa.
The King of the Cowboys used three “Triggers” and various “stunt-double” horses during his television and movie career. The original Trigger initially was named Golden Cloud and was owned by a California stable that serviced the movie industry. Rogers leased the beautiful, athletic Palomino, redubbed Trigger whenever he was wearing the “RR” saddle, for several years before buying him in 1943 for $2,500, which was a lot of money on Rogers’ $75-a-week paycheck from Republic Pictures. Rogers also used two other similar-looking stallions unrelated to the original Trigger, Trigger Jr. and Little Trigger, in appearances around the country and in movies throughout the 1950s.
Q My husband and I always enjoyed watching NYPD Blue and, especially, actor Dennis Franz. What has happened to him since the wrap-up of the hit series?
—Sarah Keith, Carlsbad, N.M.
After 12 seasons on NYPD Blue, Franz, 63, chose to take some down time. He and his wife, Joanie, recently built a home in Idaho, commuting between it and their house near Santa Barbara, Calif. He also enjoys being the proud grandpa of two preschool-age grandchildren. And the four-time Emmy winner, who has been an avid golfer for years, hits the links as often as possible.
Q What can you tell me about the background of TV’s Supernanny? Does she follow a script, or truly solve the behavioral problems with her expertise?
—Sandy Lancaster, Marion, Ill.
London-born Jo Frost, 37, began working as a nanny after graduation from college and was selected for the hit ABC-TV series Supernanny after responding to a casting ad for the show. She developed her successful method of childrearing based on more than 17 years of hands-on experience. For more of her tips, pick up her book, Supernanny: How to Get the Best from Your Children.
