Born Stephen Paul in Pittsburgh, Pa., Esteban’s uncle bought him a guitar at age 8. He taught himself to play and was later taken under the wing of legendary classical guitarist Andres Segovia, who dubbed him Esteban during his five-year (1973-1978) study with the master in Spain. Esteban later graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, majoring in classical guitar and English literature. In 1980, Esteban was involved in a car accident and was unable to play guitar for nearly a decade. By 1990, however, through regimented exercise and his passion for music, he started to play again. Since then, he has released 13 CDs and two videos.

Did Ann Blyth ever make a movie with Robert Mitchum?

Ann Blyth, 73, did star in one picture with Robert Mitchum, the 1952 wartime drama One Minute to Zero. In it she played an idealistic young U.N. official who falls in love with the colonel in charge of evacuating citizens from Korea (Mitchum). Born in Mount Kisco, N.Y., (pop. 9,983) this early bloomer was an operatic soprano singing on Broadway by her early teens. She made her way to Hollywood in 1944, where she made four musicals in a year. She was cast in numerous films in the ’40s and ’50s, earning an Oscar nomination for her memorable turn as the daughter in Joan Crawford’s classic Mildred Pierce in 1945. She also appeared in a number of television shows, including The Twilight Zone and Murder, She Wrote. She was active in regional theater and summer stock through the early ’90s.

What’s next for Michael T. Weiss, now that The Pretender has been canceled?

Weiss’ next project is the movie Bones for Newline Cinema with co-star Pam Grier, slated for an October release. The Chicago native studied at Second City workshop while in high school and later attended the University of Southern California’s School of Drama. Weiss, 39, won the role of Dr. Mike Horton on Days of Our Lives soon after graduating, playing the part for five years. However, Weiss probably is best known for his starring role as Jarod in NBC’s The Pretender, which now airs in syndication on TNT. The Pretender: Island of the Haunted airs in December. The Pretender 2001 first aired in January.
