I wanted to tell you about a very special group of people. They are The Brookings-Harbor Red Shirts, our mission is to send packages to support our troops "Until they All Come Home". We consist of mostly Veterans and retired people in the small town of Brookings-Harbor,Or. For a group of approximately 40 people with the average age of 65 years old we accomplish a lot. We send packages to our troops in harm's way in Iraq and Afganistan. We have been doing this for 3 years and have sent 3,701 packages to date. As a member I have never seen such a patriotic giving group of people or lived in a more supportive community. 100% of our donations go to the troops. We send an average of 25 packages a week and 200 for a special Xmas in July and then again at Xmas in December. We get an unbelievable amount of mail back from our troops and that makes it all worth while. We send 4- 5 packages to each soldier so they can share. In each group of we send a letter, a small piece of driftwood with a message on it, and a flag. We have had 8 flags returned to us after they have been flown over a mission with a certificate. Those flags are very close to our hearts. Our lastest endeavor is a 9/11 Concert and Candle Light Vigil. In which a large part of the community is taking part. I still can't believe how easily it came together. The band, Vietnam Veteran Asc., the Verterans Office, Marine Corp League,Vfw, American Legion, Emblem Club, Wayne Krieger, State Rep., Church Choir, local pastor and much more. All willing to help without hesitation. We work very hard to meet our mission. I am sending a few pictures of our club. Thank you for your time.
