Amazing Pick Me Up
Our HEB, which has the only really good fresh produce and meat in town, recently expanded to cover at least a full block. They put a gob of odd things in the store and spread all the real food out. Anyway it is always crowded and very tiring to shop in, so I don't go there very often. I shopped for about an hour and got a good basket full of food...a lot more than I usually get for just my husband and myself. Anyway I got in line behind a young mother with a cute 5 year old. I just smiled at the little girl, and did not try to talk to her...you know...stranger danger... anyway, when they got to the conveyer belt, the Mom put one load on it and then put a bar, then put another load behind the bar then another bar. I guessed she was buying for two different people. I patiently waited, and I have to tell you, I had my shoes on, my hair fixed, and make-up, and decent clothes on.... After she got through, she and the little girl kind of pulled up to the front and waited. The checker proceeded to run all my things through, and I tried to slide my debit card, but the machine was turned toward her, so I said...Do you have to slide my card today? She said kind of hesitatingly said "Yes"... well as she finished and I briefly looked at the screen to see by charges and went to hand her my card, she looked at the young Mother, and said to her, "You have to come sign" and handed her a credit card. Well, I was confused and thought maybe she had been waiting for something to clear on her card, but I thought, how did she scan my groceries and have hers still in the works. But the lady came around me and signed on the screen that the checker had swung around to face her. I kind of laughed and said (since I saw she had paid for two different sets of groceries) "Do you want to pay for mine too?" She looked and me and said..."Yes I did"... I was confused and said..."What?" She repeated "Yes, I did pay" I was so shocked. I said, "You did not need to do that, why did you do that, that is sweet, but why did you do that?" She said, "Well, God just told me to do it, and I wanted to." She then gave me a big hug, and proceeded to push her basket and little girl out the door, as I said, "Thank you, that was so sweet, thank you". The checkers and sackers, just looked at me with big grins, and my face turned red, and I really did not know what to think. Wasn't that an amazing thing for her to do? I still cannot believe it. I am not sure how much it cost, but I am sure it was around $80. I have to tell you it made my day. I was so inspired...Guess what? I am going to go the grocery store try to do the same thing...what do you think?
